Is there a way to take the best use of these speaker nowadays I was thinking some sort of external sound card, but I am not sure this will be replacement for the internal sound card.Have you tried plugging them into the onboard audio of another machine If so what model soundcard are you using, it might just be a matter of changing the connection type.
Desktop Theater 5.1 Dtt2200 Plus A ControlLooking at images of the power supply and amplifier you have 2 standard inputs sockets and two sets of output sockets plus a control input. The amplifier speaker system is independent of the PC in that it just accepts what it is sent. I suspect that in Windows XP you had a programme that allowed you to adjust the frequency response, etc, of what is sent to the amplifier from the add on card and that is what you think you need to work with the kit. I think that with a little research there will be programmes that work with that card and all will be fine. Desktop Theater 5.1 Dtt2200 Drivers Built InAs an experiment you could try it with a Live Linux Distro as they have the largest range of drivers built in. Today i have it plugged to my laptop with 2 of the 3 jack cables that it has (black, orange, green). In your case, you wont be able (most probably) to have those controls without a Sound Blaster card and corresponding drivers. Most mid-high end (desktop) motherboards have surround support so you would be able to connect your speakers: PIcture of motherboard, but connection may change from one vendor to another. As for your description, how did you manage to connect two of the three cables in a laptop Do you have an external USB card With only one input you can probably get sound on all speakers, but not propper 5.1 surround.
